Back in the ’60s, members of DEVO had another band called The Wipeouters. So pioneering were they that some people question whether acts like The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and Dick Dale could have accomplished what they did without The Wipeouters paving the way. Formed in 1966, they broke up in 1964, a mere two years before they started.
That was the story presented in the 2001 press release for P’Twaaang, the “lost” surf album from The Wipeouters. Around the album’s release, Chaos Control spoke with Mark Mothersbaugh about the project, vintage synths, technology, Rocket Power, DEVO, and more.
