Miss Grit Takes a Step Forward on “Under My Umbrella”

Miss Grit has followed up their excellent 2023 debut full-length “Follow the Cyborg” with “Under My Umbrella,” an album that takes their sound to a new level. Fans of the first album will not be disappointed, as it very much builds upon that and does not make any drastic stylistic shifts. But the arrangements, sound design, and production show a clear progression, coming together to create a unique, cohesive, and enthralling listening experience.

The songs on “Under My Umbrella” generally have a dense feeling to them as they fuse together organic and electronic sounding elements. But interestingly, it also seems spacious, allowing breathing room for various parts. While the vocals don’t hide behind effects, the use of effects on them is really an integral part of how the overall sonic atmosphere comes together.

The project of New York-based, Korean-American musician Margaret Sohn, Miss Grit recently performed some of these songs acoustically at an NYC in-store performance. Playing guitar and accompanied by two violinists, they proved that the songs can work well without any of the electronics and production. But when this strong songwriting meets Miss Grit’s skills with electronic music and production, the result is the truly amazing album that “Under My Umbrella” is.

Miss Grit will play another record release show in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 2nd at Scribble. In May, they will support Just Mustard on their North American tour. For more tour dates, information and to purchase music and merchandise, visit: : https://missgrit.com/
